Humbulani Netshamutshedzi was crowned the new WBF junior welterweight champion during The King Boxing Tournament that was staged at the Thohoyandou Town Hall last Saturday evening.

He beat the favorite, Norman Tshisikhawe, on points over 12 rounds. He dominated the fight, with the exception of rounds five and nine.

The main supporting bout between the Malawian national, Chimwemwe Chiotcha, and Nthutako Memela was a thriller. Chiotcha looked relaxed in the first two rounds as he was still studying his opponent from Kwamashu Township in Durban. It was in the third round that the Malawian started to take the fight to Memela, who looked weary until the time keeper rang the final bell. It was not surprising that Chiotcha was unanimously declared the winner.

In their provincial title bout scheduled over 10 rounds, Pfariso Neluvhalani gave his opponent, Balanganani Ndou, no chance. The referee, Mr Samuel Mashila, was forced to stop the fight in the fourth round. At that stage, Neluvhalani had turned Ndou into a punching bag, throwing killer punches from left and right.

Things did not go according to plan for the resident of Ngovhela village, Tendani Munyai. His bantamweight fight against Rofhiwa Nemushungwa was a one-sided affair, with Nemushungwa showing no mercy to Munyai from the onset.

Mpfariseni Khorommbi was by far the best in his lightweight fight against Steven Dewu.
