Hunderds participate in cleaning campaing

Hundreds of community members set aside everything to participate in the cleaning campaign at Musina last week.

A joint effort by the Musina Municipality and the Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism, the clean-up campaign is aimed at encouraging the community to keep the environment clean. Community members picked up garbage around residential areas in Musina before attending a formal address at Lesley Manyathela Stadium.

When addressing the participants, Cllr Benson Maphanga of the Musina Municipality said the cleanup campaign was a true reflection of what is meant by collective governance.

Maphanga encouraged community members to keep the environment clean. "Cleanliness shows the beauty of a place. If we are all clean and our habitat is dirty, it means that we are all dirty. If we don't clean our habitat, nobody will. It must always cross your minds that a clean environment is a human right. Cleaning the environment means good health for human beings, plants and animals. Cleanliness also reduces climate change and global warming and it also preserves natural resources."
