Important 1-0 victory for Tshakhuma TM

Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) proved all their critics wrong by beating Joe Maweja 1-0 in their Nedbank Cup group-stage final match at the Makwarela Stadium on Saturday.

Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) proved all their critics wrong by beating Joe Maweja 1-0 in their Nedbank Cup group-stage final match at the Makwarela Stadium on Saturday.

Maweja's dribbling wizard, Xinavona Chauke, watched the game from the touchline. He was given his marching orders in their opening match against Polokwane United at the same venue earlier that day.

The game was a typical thriller from the onset, with both sides providing enough entertainment. Lavhelesani Mukomafhedzi, the TTM's right back, found himself on the wrong side of the football laws when the game was 11 minutes old. He tackled Khumbudzo Muvhango the rough way, prompting the diminutive referee, Jelly Chavani, to flash a yellow card.

The TTM's technical staff was forced to effect an early change to their starting 11. They replaced the injured Mutali "Bodelo" Mulaudzi with Emmanuel "Messy" Neswiswi in the 24th minute. Neswiswi formed a deadly combination with Lufuno Mugodi and Sello Tshabalala at the forefront. It took TTM 29 minutes to score their all-important goal.

A substitute, Emmanuel Neswiswi, beat the keeper with a header after receiving a square pass from Mulisa Luvhengo. Maweja replaced Zwivhuya Tshisaphungo with Sheriff Mudalahothe three minutes into the last half. The keeper of TTM, Nnditsheni Sigaba, was warned with a card for wasting time. Sigaba held onto the ball for far too long before releasing it.

Maweja were reduced to 10 men in the 78th minute. Their midfielder, Isani Neluheni, saw red after a dangerous tackle on Sello Tshabalala. Maweja did not give in without a fight, despite the setback.

TTM will play against Lephalale Young Killers in the provincial semifinals at the Makwarela Stadium next Saturday, October 15.
