The case relates to an incident that took place at the Giyani Police SAP Camp last Saturday night at about 00:30.
The police spokesperson in the Mopani Area, Const Sylvia Hlungwane, said that, during the night of the incident, some of the members of the construction team that was doing paving works within the premises saw a man inside one of the impounded vehicles.
They notified the police officers who were on duty about their suspicion. The police responded to the call by rushing to the scene. On arrival, they allegedly found the suspect inside one of the vehicles. To their surprise, the police discovered that the suspect was their colleague.
He was arrested and charged with theft from the motor vehicle. According to the police statement, the suspect was in possession of a car stereo and two car speakers at the time of his arrest. The value of the suspected stolen goods that were allegedly found in his possession is about R2 600.
Risimati was not asked to plead during his first court appearance on Monday. The case was remanded to Tuesday, August 16, pending further investigations. He was released after paying a bail of R3 000. The police are investigating the matter further.
