Two people have been arrested for allegedly selling a fake matric certificate.

Police spokesperson Maj Mashudu Malelo confirmed that they had arrested a man and a woman on Friday morning, following a tip-off from a community member. "We were informed by a reliable source that two suspects were about to sell a fake matric certificate to a 16-year-old girl for R4 000 in Sibasa. Apparently, they became suspicious and moved from Sibasa to Thohoyandou. After they had exchanged money with the victim in Thohoyandou, we arrested them," he added.

Malelo also confirmed that the suspects, Nkhangweleni Mulaudzi (35) and Tshisamphiri Albert Thagwana (40), appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrate's Court on Monday, and the case has been postponed to 29 July. They are in custody.

He also revealed that investigators are busy checking if the suspects were involved in similar cases.
