Instilling a culture of learning

THENZHENI – Learners from 30 schools in the Mudaswali circuit converged at Thenzheni Community Hall, near Muhuyu, to participate in the annual Juta Gariep Educational Competitions. School kids from Grades R to 12 took part in reading, poetry, story telling, prepared and unprepared speech, drama and debate.

Mudaswali Circuit Manager Nndavheleseni Masibigiri says the competition is aimed at instilling the culture of reading and to build the learners’ self-confidence.

“The competition is of vital importance in the future of these kids because we are preparing them to face the future with confidence. We want to promote the culture of reading and encourage the learners to speak with confidence. We initially divided Mudaswali circuit into three clusters and learners competed at school level before they came here for the circuit level competition today. The competition has been sponsored by Juta Gariep publishers with R10 000.”

All participants were awarded with certificates, T-shirts, and story books. Those who made it will proceed to intercircuit level competitions at a later stage.
