The past season was one of the worst ever for the Venda Football Club (VFC). VFC finished their league programme in 12th position on the log standings with 35 points, four points above the second-last side, NB La Masia FC.
According to the chairman of the club, Mr Itani Munzhelele, the team started the season on a bad note. Had it not been for the team's impressive performance in their last six games, they would have faced relegation. VFC won four of their last six games and shared the spoils on two occasions.
Munzhelele said that the team's superb performance towards the end of the season was a clear indication that the players were starting to adapt to the coaching philosophy of the team's head coach, Mr Duncan Lechesa. Lechesa took over from Mr Joel "The Prophet" Masutha in the middle of the season.
Asked whether they were going to retain the current technical team, Munzhelele said that a number of things would be considered before a decision regarding Mr Lechesa and his colleague, Mr Johnny Ferreira, was made.
As for the players, Vhanzheli, as he is commonly known, revealed that some of the players would obviously part ways with the club because their employment contracts are expiring. He also said that supporters should expect a new-look VFC next season. He further stated that the new players would be signed in line with the recommendations from the technical staff.
VFC wrapped up their league programme with a 2-2 draw against Magesi FC at Polokwane's Old Peter Mokaba Stadium last Sunday.
