Karabo Sesenyamotse from Musina is quite optimistic about winning the Best Hustler award at this year's Mzansi Arts and Media Awards (MAMA).

He was nominated in this category last month and is very excited about it.

The MAMA awards serve as a platform to uplift and give recognition to upcoming artists and creative people in South Africa.

Sesenyamotse (21), a mechanical engineering student at Vhembe TVET College, followed Sakhile Mcambi, a businessman from Zimbabwe, on Facebook until he finally got Mcambi's contact details.

"I befriended Mcambi, and we started chatting about entrepreneurship. This inspired me very much, to the extent that I started my own small business, producing fragranced perfumes and body lotions," said Sesenyamotse.

He uses fragrant oils, mixed with an alcohol base, to produce his perfumes, and this idea is what landed him a nomination for the awards. He is, however, contesting with hundreds of other nominees in this category, which makes the competition tough. Those who make it to the top 10 have the chance of winning the award, which includes a cash prize.

Sesenyamotse, however, is confident that he will be among the top 10. "I am sure of being in the top 10 because I am getting considerable votes daily," he said and added that once his business was flourishing, he would donate food and clothing to vulnerable communities in Musina. His business, Neita Fragrance Pty Ltd, is currently run from Matswale Phase 4, Tshidi Crescent.
