"Growing up, I became more and more aware of how many people committed suicide; not only in Musina, but all over the country. Must the government alone carry the responsibility for people who suffer from depression? I would think that this concerns us all, not just the government," said Lesedi Kgame, a Musina resident who goes out of her way to sing about healing and love.
Lesedi (26) knew that she had a passion for music from her early teens, listening to artists such as Etta James, Westlife and Whitney Houston, but for a long time she contemplated what kind of message she wanted her own music to portray to listeners. "When I was in the sixth grade, my teacher wrote a song on the writing board and taught us how to sing the song. I was later told that I was the best singer in the class, and that is where I developed a love for music. I just love to share my feelings through music."
In 2021, she released two songs, titled Don't take me for a fool and I miss you. Her latest single, Phola (Heal), was released only last week.
Lesedi is married to Freedom Boikanyo, who also happens to be a local musician. They are blessed with an 11-month-old baby girl, and although she loves to compose new music, she still finds balancing her time between her music career and family life very difficult.
Lesedi's songs are available on Spotify or YouTube. Follow her on Facebook (Lesedi Kgame) or call her on 067 109 5023 to learn more about her music.
