One of the best-known faces at Khoroni Hotel Casino Convention Resort in Thohoyandou, Mark Single, has retired and will soon be moving to the Free State. Mark has been staying in the Vhembe area for the past 20 years.
Mark moved to the region in 2002, shortly after the then Venda Sun hotel and Casino was purchased by Tusk Resorts and became Tusk Venda. "When I started at Tusk Venda, I took on the role of slots manager from Albert Eksteen, who then became the general manager of the resort," he says. Tusk Resorts sold the property to Peermont Resorts in 2007.
Mark quickly became part of the community, especially in Louis Trichardt where he was an active member of, among others, the Methodist Church. When he retired, he was general manager of Khoroni Hotel Casino Convention Resort.
"It has now come to pass that I have reached retirement age, which in our industry is 60, and so I ready myself for a move and a new chapter in my life," he says. Mark says that he has made many friends and has many fond memories of the place that he often refers to as "Far, Far Away Land".
He says that he has grown quite attached to this beautiful part of our country. "Then again, I am yet to find a part of South Africa that is not beautiful. To everyone I knew, look after yourselves, and God bless!"
And Mark leaves with an invitation: "If you ever pass through the Free State and need a cup of coffee..."
