Residents of Khubvi village took a significant step forward in local football development during a recent meeting spearheaded by the Murongwe Enrichment Project, in collaboration with eight local football teams.
The gathering, held at the Murongwe Centre Boardroom on Wednesday, 15 January, aimed to foster cooperation among stakeholders and supporters to strengthen football at all levels in the village.
Several groundbreaking decisions were made at the meeting, including the establishment of formalised U/12 wings in each team, the launch of a local football tournament, and a commitment to work collectively to access resources for football development.
"Football is more than just a sport; it's a platform for youth development and community building," said Nndoweni Malala, director of the Murongwe Enrichment Project. According to Malala, by coming together, they are not only nurturing talent but also creating opportunities for young people to grow both on and off the field. He said the decision to formalise U/12 teams had been particularly well-received as it ensured a structured pathway for nurturing young talent.
Lungisani Badzhi of Mudaswali United Brothers welcomed the platform to groom future stars from a young age. "As amateur football administrators, we welcome the idea of engaging in this kind of forum, which will lead to the development of our much-loved sport at grassroots level," he said.
Norman Ramahada, an experienced tournament organiser, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative. "This tournament will be a celebration of our local talent and a testament to what we can achieve when we work together. It's more than just football; it's about bringing people together and inspiring the next generation," he said.
The meeting emphasised the importance of collaboration among various stakeholders, including local businesses, community leaders and football supporters. The collective goal is to ensure that the teams have the necessary resources to thrive.
