When she started her singing career a few years ago, Khuthadzo Maduwa's goal was simple: to have her music recorded and played on radio. That ambition has finally been realised, and the artist – known by her stage name, Khuthi Vocalist Muimbi – can now begin setting new goals.
The 32-year-old musician from Mulima Pfananani, outside Louis Trichardt, is living her dream. Her debut album, Ndo Livhuwa Makhuwa, was recorded in July last year, but financial constraints delayed its release until March this year.
As a newcomer, she enlisted the help of well-known artist DJ Search to bring the project to life. The seven-track album includes songs such as Masole, Nisongo Themba Mungana and Mabengo.
Although the album is not yet available on digital platforms, it is already making waves on the local music scene and winning over dance-music fans. Just weeks after its release, several tracks have become instant hits, with the album receiving airplay at events and entertainment venues.
"This is a significant milestone for me. As a newcomer I never expected this warm welcome to the industry. I am so motivated, and this steered me to working on my next projects," she said.
Her next EP is expected to be released in June or July. "I am also working on placing my music in all music digital stores so that my fans can easily access it. My long-term dream is to make a big impact in this industry and with the support I am getting, the dream will come true one day," she said.
Khuthi Vocalist Muimbi's music journey began in 2003 as a choir member at the local Gundo Apostolic Church. Unlike in many families where careers in entertainment are discouraged, she was supported and encouraged by her relatives to pursue her passion.
