The principal of the University of Venda (Univen), Prof Peter Mbati welcomed the appointment of Adv Edward Lambani as director of legal services at the university.

He fills the vacancy left by the late Dr Nanga Lidovho, who passed away in a motorbike accident last year.

"Considering the exceptional insight into legal issues and his familiarity with the higher education environment, we are grateful to have someone of his outstanding calibre in the university's legal services department," said Mbati.

The experienced Lambani said he grabbed the appointment with both hands. "I am committed to make a positive contribution towards the achievement of the university's predetermined objectives and I am grateful to plough back to the university" he said.

Lambani holds a B Proc from the University of Zululand, LLB from Univen, LLM in property laws from the University of the Witwatersrand and an LLM (cum laude) in administrative and municipal law from the University of Johannesburg.

Prior to coming to Univen, he worked at different institutions. Between 1991 and 1992 he served as a member of council of Univen, while between 1997 and 2004 he served as the chairperson of the Univen disciplinary appeals committee. He also served as secretary to the Limpopo Legislature between 2002 and 2011.

Lambani also occupies a number of senior positions in both public and private institutions.

Prior to his appointment, he was the director of Eddie Lambani Inc, a firm of attorneys based in Polokwane.
