The Thohoyandou Stadium will be a hive of activity on Saturday as the much-awaited semi-final and final matches of the Safa Vhembe promotional play-offs will be staged there. The draws for the semi-final matches were conducted at the Safa Vhembe Regional offices on Tuesday afternoon.
The four teams that managed to secure places in the semi-final stage are Mukula Young Santos, Univen FC, Dipeni FC, and Eagles United FC.
In the first match, Mukula Young Santos will face off against Univen FC. They are expected to be on the field of play at 09:00.
Young Santos' journey to the semi-final round went through Makhitha Oscar Stars, whom they beat 1-0 in their last group-stage match played at the Makhuvha Stadium last Sunday. They had previously drawn 1-1 with Annel Real Vikings earlier that day.
Univen students defeated Merwe United FC 2-0 in their last group-stage match at the Tshifudi Stadium last Sunday, securing a place in the semi-final round.
Dipeni FC and Eagles United will compete against each other in the second semi-final, scheduled to start at 11:00. Dipeni's performance in their group-stage matches has been impressive. They defeated Masakona Young Tigers 3-2 in their opening match at the Malamulele Stadium. In their last group-stage match, they came back from a 0-1 deficit to beat Mukula Fast XI 2-1.
The winners of the semi-final matches will meet in the final later in the afternoon to determine the regional champions.
The champions will represent the region in the provincial promotional play-offs, which will be hosted by Safa Mopani Region over the second weekend of next month. United Artists represented the Safa Vhembe Region last year. The top two teams in the provincial promotional play-offs will be promoted to the ABC Motsepe League.
