Vhamusanda Vho-Shandukani Malise, the traditional leader of Domboni village outside Musina, expressed his shock over the death of Vhakoma Vho-Tshitereke Piet Mukwevho.
Mukwevho passed away at the age of 77 at his home last Friday (21 October). He had suffered from health problems over the past few months.
Vhamusanda Vho-Malise said Mukwevho's death was weighing heavily on him. "He was my right hand. I tasked him with everything concerning the running of my village, and he did it with exception. He would travel to all government offices, raising service delivery issues on behalf of my village, and report back to me and my council accordingly. We would also delegate him to attend meetings of the local municipality, where he raised issues with the politicians. Most of the issues he raised have been resolved and my people are now getting the desired services because of him. I cannot imagine how life will be without him in our village. Death has robbed us of a hard worker whose contributions to community development will live with us forever," he said.
The deceased's son, Phalanndwa Mukwevho, confirmed his father's death. "It is indeed true that my father is no more. Although he was not feeling well for some time, his death came as a surprise. We were hopeful that he would recover and continue working for the local community that he loved so dearly. His death is very painful to us. He raised us with much love and proper guidance. Our family and the whole village have lost a pillar of strength. He was loved by many. We will remember all the good things he did for us and the community as a whole while he was still alive."
Vhakoma Vho- Mukwevho is survived by his two wives, Vho-Nyamuoki and Vho-Dorah, 12 children and 33 grandchildren. He will be laid to rest this Saturday (29 October) at Folovhodwe village, after a formal programme, which will start at Domboni village at 05:00.
