The R22 million state-of-the-art Malamulele High School that was built by the Department of Education, in conjunction with the Independent Development Trust (IDT), was handed over to the learners and community of Malamulele by the MEC for Education, Ms Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya, on Wednesday, 24 May.
Lerule-Ramakhanya said that the project would go a long way in restoring the dignity of the black child. "On the 30th of March 2023, when I presented the budget speech at the provincial legislature, I declared that 2023/24 would be the year for school infrastructure. I also made mention that among the schools that I will be handing over to the community is Malamulele High, and we are here to do just that," she said.
Lerule-Ramakhanya added that the high number of burglaries and thefts in some of the schools in the province was a cause for serious concern. She called on the support of the parents, guardians, community safety structures, pastors and civic structure to assist them in instilling and maintaining discipline in their schools.
The chief executive officer of the IDT, Mr Tebogo Malaka, said that when they had first been approached by the provincial Department of Education, they had immediately understood that this would have to be a state-of-the-art school – not just for the current learners, but also for future generations, to contribute to the advancement of learning and teaching.
The principal of Malamulele High, Mr Isaac Nkuna, was ecstatic about the school, which he said would definitely go a long way in motivating the learners to produce astonishing results.
