Black Leopards face a crucial match against Cape Town City, needing at least a draw to avoid relegation. A win would greatly improve their standing, while City seeks to strengthen their promotion bid.

Black Leopards must at least hold Cape Town City to a draw in their Motsepe Foundation Championship League match at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town next Tuesday, 7 April, if they are serious about avoiding relegation at the end of the season.

While City will be aiming to strengthen their promotion chances, a win for Lidoda duvha would significantly boost the Leopards’ hopes of climbing out of the relegation zone.

Before their Wednesday match against Upington City, Black Leopards were bottom of the log with 17 points, one behind Baroka FC. Results of that fixture were not available at the time of going to press.

The Leopards’ spirits are high after collecting four points from their previous two matches. They played a goalless draw with Highbury FC at Gelvandale Stadium in Gqeberha and beat Leicesterford City 1-0 at Thohoyandou Stadium on Sunday, 15 March.

Cape Town City’s last match was a 1-1 draw against Venda Football Club at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday, 21 March. A win on Tuesday could lift City to the top of the log. They are currently fifth with 37 points, three behind leaders Milford FC.

Co-coach of Black Leopards Sundra Govinder said history would not repeat itself next Tuesday, referring to the 1-0 defeat Leopards suffered against City in their first-round meeting at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday, 8 November.

Cape Town City co-coach Jan Vreman said his side was ready to give Leopards a tough challenge.
