Hunt handed a letter of resignation to the Managing Director of the team on Monday. He joined Black Leopards as head coach in August last year and steered the team to 13 victories, 10 draws and 11 losses during the season.
The team ended in the eighth spot and thus qualified for the prestigious BP Top 8 KO Competition. It was his team's consistent performance that lead to his nomination as the coach of the month in August and November. Apart from the two awards, Gavin was voted the Castle Premiership Coach of the Season during the prize-giving ceremony that was held in Sandton last Wednesday.
The managing director of Leopards, Mr David Thidiela, confirmed that they have parted ways with Hunt. He acknowledged the fact that Gavin is a good coach and that it was not easy to part ways with a man of his calibre. Thidiela, however, confidently stated that they will soon find a good replacement for Hunt.
The Capetonian started his coaching career with the now-defunct Seven Stars Football Club. He then moved to Hellenic before coming to Black Leopards last year.
