The rampant breakdown of relationships is causing significant pain for families and couples. Small misunderstandings that could be resolved often lead to breakups. This has prompted well-known musician Maanda Netshivhangoni - better known as Dumbu Mazikule in the entertainment industry - to create something that offers relief and answers to these challenges.
The musician from Matangari outside Thohoyandou recently launched his third album, Nokangwa. The album falls within the boholo house music genre and marks a departure from his previous two releases, which were both in the reggae style.
"The song Nokangwa comes amid the growing number of failed relationships caused by issues that could be amicably resolved," said Mazikule. He explained that situations such as a partner coming home early in the morning in a drunken state can lead to the breakdown of a marriage.
"In some instances, relationships fall apart because one partner has been caught cheating. There will be no peace in that family or relationship. As we celebrate the month of love, let us all be faithful to our spouses and not be tempted by people outside our relationships," he said. He added that love should be built on respect and trust, and if these elements are present, there will be no infidelity.
Dumbu Mazikule began his music journey in 1994, playing handmade tin guitars during his school days. He was encouraged by his teacher, Mr Mutshutshu Dzebu. By chance, in 1999, he met legendary gospel musician Bishop Roxley Masevhe and artist Hani Mutele. Their collaboration led to the release of his debut album, Dumbu Mazikule (Zikula), in 2001. This was followed by another popular album, Khanyisavhanwe, in 2013.
