LG Discovery lift Makuya Cup after penalty shootout

LG Discovery FC triumphed over Makonde FC in a penalty shootout to win the fourth annual Horse Makuya Soccer Challenge, securing R20,000, a trophy, and gold medals. The tournament, held at Makuya Grounds, featured sixteen teams and awarded various individual accolades alongside team prizes.

LG Discovery FC won the fourth annual Horse Makuya Soccer Challenge after defeating Makonde FC 6–5 in a penalty shootout, following a 1–1 draw in the final.

The tournament started on April 3, with the final taking place on April 6 at Makuya Grounds. Sixteen teams participated in the competition, which attracted large crowds from the opening day through to the final match.

The champions, Discovery FC, walked away with R20,000, a floating trophy, gold medals and new soccer kits. Runners-up Makonde FC received R10,000, silver medals and new kits. The third- and fourth-placed teams, Tshitavha Brave Lions and Makuya Big Cat, each received R4,000 and new soccer kits.

The four teams knocked out in the quarter-finals received soccer kits and a soccer ball each, while teams finishing from ninth to 16th place each received a soccer ball.

Individual awards were also presented during the tournament. The Player of the Tournament award went to Ndikundisani Neluvhada of LG Discovery FC. The Young Player of the Tournament award went to Unarine Tshivhase of Makonde FC. Muano Phasha (Discovery) was named Midfielder of the Tournament, while Christopher Matamela (Discovery) won Defender of the Tournament. Abednigo Shandukani (Discovery) was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament, and Steve Munyamela (Discovery) was named Coach of the Tournament.
