Pop musician Dakalo Mathaba, known in music circles as Libopie Charma Gal, is emerging as one of Limpopo's fastest-rising stars. The girl from Matangari Matombotswuka outside Thohoyandou is already being tipped as the province's next pop sensation, following in the footsteps of Makhadzi.
Although she only began singing in 2022, Libopie has released two albums and performed widely, including a September 2025 show at the Botswana Defence Force in Botswana. Her latest album, Linwe Duvha Zwi Do Luga, is receiving great airplay on community radio and SABC stations, while the demand for live performances has elevated her profile in the industry.
"The album is not just music - it reflects my dream that one day things will change for the better," Libopie said. She acknowledged challenges in the industry, noting that some promoters had sidelined her, but she remained undeterred. "I know my time will come. My eyes are set on the national stage, performing alongside the top names," she added.
Libopie describes music as a God-given gift. She began by imitating gospel diva Rebecca Malope and released her debut single, Mutakalo, in 2022, followed by her first album Mudzimu Vula Ndila in 2023. Her latest project, recorded at DJ Takie Studio, features collaborations with Sphala Phala Saga, Marothi, and Rasta Bathu. She thanked her fans for their support and promised new music soon.
