Doctors are known for their humility, compassion and love for humankind. A Malamulele based medical doctor, however, found himself on the wrong side of the law and is now in hot water.

The 34-year-old Dr Francis Rasweswe, who works at the Malamulele Hospital, was arrested yesterday (Wednesday) on a charge of assault.

According to police, the complainant and wife of the accused, Ms Khathutshelo Rasweswe (31), a social worker, was allegedly assaulted by her husband. He allegedly hit her with his fists at their residence on the night of 9 September after a domestic dispute.

"The suspect was arrested yesterday and appeared in the Malamulele Magistrate's Court today. He was released on bail of R1 000 and the case was postponed to 1 November. We charged him with assault and our investigations are continuing," said provincial police spokesperson Lt-Col Moatshe Ngoepe.
