The village of Vuu, outside Vuwani, has been plunged into mourning following the death of a local learner.

The 16-year-old Grade 10 pupil at Mugoidwa Secondary School is alleged to have taken his own life.

The deceased, who relocated to the area last year, was previously a pupil at Khwevha Commercial High School before enrolling at Mugoidwa Secondary School in Vuwani.

According to information from the community, the incident occurred on Friday afternoon after the learner reportedly returned home from school and went into his room.

It was only later, when a friend came to check on him, that the discovery was made. An ambulance was called and he was taken to hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear and are subject to police investigation.

A neighbour, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the incident has left the community devastated.

“This has shocked us to the core. We do not know much about this boy as he was still new in the village, but what we know is that he was a respectful boy,” he said.
