The Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET) has dismissed claims that a lion was roaming Domboni village in the Vhembe district.
LEDET spokesperson Zaid Kalla said there was no lion in Domboni, following reports by residents who claimed they had spotted one on Thursday morning, 5 February.
Kalla confirmed that sightings of a stray male lion had earlier been reported between Domboni and Tshivaloni in the Niani area outside Musina. A LEDET team, working with Masisi police, conducted a search starting in Domboni and moving towards Tshivaloni after receiving a lead.
“No spoor linked to a lion was found. Only dog spoor was detected,” Kalla said, adding that the search is continuing as a precaution.
