Manenzhe Liverpool booked a place in the semi-final of the Vhembe District Mayoral challenge when they easily crushed Thembaluvhilo Seven Stars 4-1 at the Malamulele Stadium on Saturday.
Seven Stars approached the game aggressively, with their midfielders putting enough pressure on the well-organized Liverpool defence.
Liverpool did not lose their fighting spirit, despite the fact that Seven Stars were frustrating them by denying them an opportunity to put the ball down. Hector Sebe of Liverpool was reprimanded with a card for protesting against the referee's decision. The referee awarded a throw-in tot Seven Stars and Sebe felt that the referee had taken an uninformed decision. He picked up the ball and threw it away as a way to demonstrate his dissatisfaction about the referee's decision. Liverpool scored their first goal in the 29th minute.
Mashudu Noko unleashed from the penalty area and the Stars' keeper, Rofhiwa Netshiomvani, palmed the ball back into his own net in an attempt to save it. Mpho Masia put Liverpool further ahead when he forced his way through the defence of Stars and released a ground cutter.
Seven Stars did not give in without a fight, but instead initiated some promising moves from the middle of the park. They pulled one back via Mukovhe Sirunwe, who beat the Liverpool keeper, Vincent Sigaba, with a loose high ball.
That was an insult to the Vodacom Promotional League side. They retaliated by scoring two more goals in quick succession. Mpho Masia headed home, following a corner kick that was taken by Tsiko Magalela. Edwin Ramphabana was on target towards the end of the game.
