Up-and-coming local actor Adivhaho Tshihume is gearing up to compete with the best in the film industry in the future.
Born and raised at Makonde, Tshihume started acting early on in his life. "It all started at the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) when I was a little boy, where we attended acting classes after every church service. At the time, there was an actor called Mr Bean and I spent a lot of time watching him on television," he said.
Tshihume has already starred in more than 10 movies. He said the best movie he had acted in was called Venda Hustlers. "In this movie, I play a lover boy who falls in love with the drug dealers' girlfriends all the time and then ends up hooked into the business," he said.
When asked about the problems up-and-coming actors are facing today, he said that poverty was one of the reasons why many young actors decide to leave the industry. "You have to be presentable if you get a good part in a movie. It is worse when you get a sterling role. And sometimes youngsters just disappear on the eve of recording because of poverty."
Tshihume said that he would like to act alongside big names such as Denzel Washington and Cuba Gooding Jr. "Watch this space. You will see me rubbing shoulders with Hollywood stars one of these days," he said.
