Reggae artist Khuthadzo Tshirundu, better known as Majasi, has just released his fourth album, called Vhutshilo ndi nndwa (meaning: life is a war or struggle).

Majasi (28) was born and raised in the rural village of Mbaleni, near Sibasa, and said he was inspired by well-known reggae artist Khakhathi "Murida" Tshisikule, who taught him how to play the guitar and sing reggae songs.

He released his first album, Ndo bebwa henefha Africa, in 2008. He discovered early on how tough the music industry can be. "One has to pay money to get an album recorded and afterwards find them being sold on the streets by unscrupulous dealers (called amatenten) for as cheap as R10," he said.

His new album comprises 10 soulful tracks, including the title track, Vhutshilo ndi nndwa, Tshilani na vhathu and Nyimelo. He said the album was focused on encouraging others to work hard and do things for themselves, and never to depend on begging. "I cheer people on to live together in harmony; to develop friendships rather than to fight and quarrel with one another, and to forget about the bitterness of the past and just keep on fighting for a better life."

Majasi said that, after he had approached many people, Mr Phathutshedzo Tshabuse from Gokolo village finally offered to help him with funds to get his latest album recorded as the artist is currently unemployed and depends on piece jobs to earn a living. Vhutsilo ndi nndwa was recorded at the Ropa Bass Studio in Itsani village, outside Thohoyandou. All the songs on the album were composed by Majasi himself.

For booking and album sales, Majasi can be contacted on 071 573 5541 or 079 049 9014.
