Delvah Mathevula (29) from Muyexe village near Giyani will be flying to Las Vegas in the United States of America to present a paper, entitled Totems and their influence among Vatsonga people.
According to Mathevula, a totem is an animal that people culturally worship and it normally represents a certain clan.
He is currently studying at Univen for his masters degree in arts and he is also working at the Centre for Higher Education, Teaching and Learning (CHETL) in the academic development unit (ADU) as a teaching assistant.
The trip is funded by the University of Venda's research directorate.
The conference will take place from 2 to 5 October at the Harrah's Hotel in Las Vegas. The conference is organised by the Clute Institute.
