Community members of Mukondeni are still in shock after a well-known local teacher was shot and killed after being hijacked at Magoro on Thursday, 21 September. His burnt-out car was found 50km away.

The deceased, Mr Robert Mudau (56), was a teacher at Tshiitwa High School in the Mashamba area.

The police spokesperson, Lt Col Malesela Ledwaba, confirmed the incident and said that the police had opened cases of murder and hijacking.

Ledwaba sent out a warning that the police will leave no stone unturned in tracking down the culprits and bringing them to justice. "We are definitely going to make a breakthrough, and the murderers will not get away with it before the law takes its course. We request community members to come forward with evidence that can lead to the arrest of the culprits," he said.

The sister of the deceased, Ms Lillian Mudau, said she had been devastated when learning about the death of her beloved brother. "I received a call on the morning of the incident informing me about Robert's death. I was so shocked and confused. How on earth could something like this have happened?" she said.

Lillian described Mudau as a loving person. "Robert was a good, humble man who loved the church and respected others. He laughed and joked with everyone and had no grudges against anybody. This is a great loss to us. We will miss him dearly; he is irreplaceable."

Mudau will be buried at Mukondeni on Saturday, 30 September. The service starts at 06:00.

Anyone with information about the incident is requested to report it to the nearest police station, anonymously to the Crime Stop hotline number on 08600 10111, or via the MySAPSApp.
