The Western Youth Cup organisers have invited teams to register for the seventh annual Soccer Challenge Top 16 tournament, which will take place during the winter season.
More than R80,000 has been budgeted for the soccer tournament, which will be held from 13 to 16 June at the Habala Tshikhwani Stanza Grounds.
According to the organisers’ spokesperson, Mr Ronewa “Rio” Nemaungani, the tournament will mainly cater for teams from the Vhembe region.
The registration fee is R1,200 per team. The champions will receive R22,000, a floating trophy, gold medals and a new soccer kit. The runners-up will take home R10,000, silver medals and a new soccer kit, while the teams finishing in third and fourth place will each receive R1,800.
Nemaungani expressed appreciation to the sponsors supporting the tournament. “Despite the difficult economic conditions, we still find companies that are prepared to support sport and invest in our communities,” he said.
