A jilted lover allegedly went berserk and hacked his former girlfriend and her new lover to death after he allegedly found them sleeping together last Saturday evening.
Wisani Mathebula (30) briefly appeared in the Vuwani Magistrate's Court on Monday and the case was postponed to 16 March for further investigation. He was not asked to plead and he remains in custody.
Although the facts surrounding the incident are still sketchy, Limpopo police spokesperson Col Ronel Otto said that Mathebula allegedly arrived at his former girlfriend's home in Bofulamato-Nngwekhulu village outside Vuwani on Saturday evening at about 22:00. As she did not respond to his knocking on the door, Mathebula allegedly forced the door of the mud hut open.
"When he entered the hut, he found his former girlfriend, Ms Sarah Munyai (42), sleeping with another man, Mr Mashamba Sadiki. He apparently became agitated and went berserk. It was reported that he then took a sharp panga and hacked the two lovers to death," Otto said.
It is also said that the deceased, Sarah, had lived alone. Her elder sister, Ms Grace Munyai, said the family was saddened about the incident and still in a state of shock. "I don't know why the man decided to kill my younger sister. If he suspected that she was not faithful to him, he should have left my sister alone."
