Madridtas FC were crowned champions of the Kamurini Soccer Tournament after beating Vhembe Tron 2-1 in the final, played at the Lambani Mahagala Grounds last Saturday.
Madridtas received R15,000, gold medals, a floating trophy and soccer kit during a ceremony held at the grounds after the game. Runners-up Vhembe Tron walked away with R5,000, silver medals and soccer kit.
Tron reached the final by beating FC Basel 5-3 in their semi-final at the same venue earlier that day. Madridtas secured their place in the final with a 2-1 win over Tshaulu Powerlines.
Madridtas' lethal striker, Mulisa Ramusia, was named Man of the Match. The Best Young Player award went to Gudani Nevhudzholi of Madridtas. Another Madridtas player, Lutendo Masindi, was named Player of the Tournament.
Romeo Mundalamo of Tron won the Best Goalkeeper award, while his teammate Khalirendwe Mashamba received the Best Defender award.
Mulisa Ramusia and Vhudzheno Radzilani scored for Madridtas in the final, while Tron's only goal came via Rinae Rambau.
Sixteen teams from across Vhembe participated in this year's edition of the tournament. According to the sponsor, Mr Cliff Nemakhavhani, the tournament will become an annual event, with the sponsorship amount increasing each year.
