Madridtas lifted the Lumveleni Tournament trophy last Sunday, marking a memorable day for the club. The team was crowned champion of the Lumveleni Restaurant Soccer Tournament. In the final match, played at the Ngudza Grounds, they managed to beat Vondwe XI Bullets 3-2.
The Tshifudi-based side defeated Vondwe United Brothers 1-0 in their semi-final game at the same venue earlier that day. XI Bullets advanced to the final by beating Mukumbani Shooting Stars 12-0 in their semi-final game.
Sunday's final had the characteristics of a typical derby, with both sides going all out to impress the fans. Bullets' deadly striker, Lucky Mutshotsho, was closely marked and could not display his usual entertaining style. Madridtas' playmakers, Adivhaho Damuleli and Ntanganedzeni Mudau, were a constant challenge for Bullets' defenders. The duo was everywhere, keeping the fire burning in the middle of the park while also playing as full strikers.
The winner had to be determined through a penalty shootout after a goalless draw at the end of regulation time.
Madridtas were awarded R15,000, a floating trophy, and gold medals during a ceremony held at Lumveleni Restaurant after the final game. Vondwe XI Bullets received R7,500 and silver medals, while the third- and fourth-placed teams, Vondwe United Brothers and Mukumbani Shooting Stars, each received R1,500.
