Maebane Cricket Club were crowned champions of the third edition of the Eric Ravhura Cricket Tournament, held at the Ravele Grounds on 4 October.
Tournament sponsor Eric Ravhura said he had started the competition to develop the rural youth and give them opportunities to train in cricket. "I have seen impressive local talent and decided to create a platform to showcase it. Cricket teaches discipline, focus and teamwork, and it brings together people from different backgrounds," he said. Ravhura added that he hoped to expand the tournament with more sponsors to strengthen the players' spirits and urged local businesspeople to support the initiative.
Maebane captain and Best Batsman award winner Thakhani Ligaraba said growing up in rural Limpopo had taught him how limited sporting resources could be. "There's so much talent in the villages waiting to be discovered. We must nurture it or risk losing it forever," he said.
Maebane Cricket Club received a floating trophy and gold medals, while Western Cricket Club took silver and Medike Cricket Club claimed bronze. Maebane's Junior Khaedu was named Best Bowler.
