A well-known writer, Rudzani David "Muonyolosi" Mafhege of Vondwe-Lwavune village, has just published a new book, Tshiphiri Tsha Mbalo (the secret of mastering mathematics) aimed at helping Grade 7 pupils to understand mathematics better.
Mafhege explained that he had decided to write such a book after realising that many young learners battled to grasp the intricacies of mathematics. He believes that for children at primary school level to have a thorough knowledge of the subject is vital.
Mafhege added that most of the books dealing with mathematics are written in English, making it difficult to understand for Tshivenda-speaking pupils. He decided to write the Tshivenda study guide to bridge this gap.
"In the book, I try to explain how each and every fraction, equation and ratio fits in. We don't want our young kids suffering from a lack of knowledge of mathematics, as it is a vital subject that can help to unlock the doors of learning," said Mafhege.
Mafhege, who is also a self-employed carpenter, said that he had developed a love of writing as far back as 1994. "I started writing radio dramas in 1996 and I have written Tshivenda dramas such as Ndila dza funguvhu, Zwido konwa nga nnyi? and Mukhakhi ndi nnyi? which was finally aired on the then Radio Venda," he said.
His latest book (the study guide) was published in January this year with the help of Dzivha Publishers Pty Ltd and printed by Thina Printers and Distributors in Thohoyandou.
