In a world where music is constantly evolving, musician, engineer, and producer Eric King LIPAZ, also known as Mahoshi, is once again pushing boundaries with his innovative sound. His latest single, Igamalakho, is a bold and captivating release that he describes as the culmination of his artistic journey.
"It introduces an exciting Afro-synth sound, harmonising African soul with the vibrant rhythms of the VaTsonga and Vhavenda cultures. The track features live instruments, including handclaps, shakers, and the distinctive ndwevha (whistle), providing an authentic African experience that transcends musical genres," he said.
Mahoshi is no newcomer to the music industry. With a career spanning more than 35 years, he has established himself as a visionary artist, blending traditional African rhythms with contemporary influences to create a unique sound.
He first gained recognition as South Africa's youngest producer in the early 1990s. Since then, he has collaborated with some of the country's most renowned musicians, including the popular MarcAlex, the late guitar wizard Ray Phiri of Stimela, and gospel sensation Rebecca Malope. Over his illustrious career, he has released an impressive 244 albums.
Mahoshi's Afro Zion music has earned him international acclaim, with dedicated fans in the UK, USA, Australia, and New Zealand. "It is incredible to see how our music resonates globally," he said, highlighting the universal power of music to connect people across cultures.
Beyond music, Mahoshi is set to unveil his 18th film in June 2025, coinciding with his birthday. The film will feature many of the same artists showcased in the Igamalakho music video, demonstrating his multifaceted artistry as a composer, producer, film director, and graphic designer.
"Igamalakho is just a glimpse of what's to come - a precursor to a full album that will feature 11 tracks. This single is a way of testing the waters, inviting fans to experience the energy before the complete collection is released," he said.
