About 200 learners from Mudinane Secondary School at Ha-Vhangani outside Vuwani were exposed to the working environment when they visited the Matsila Arts and Crafts Centre at Matsila on Friday.

This is the school that formed a solid foundation for Chief Livhuwani Matsila, who is the founder of the Matsila Development Trust.

The learners, who were accompanied by their educators, were part of a learning tour organised by the school for them to have first-hand and practical information about some subjects they are learning at school.

Educator Thinandavha Nemaulumane said the learners in Grades 8 and 9 did arts and culture subjects at school. "We felt it was not enough for them to do everything in class and decided that we would expose them to a working environment where they could see things happening. We are very excited to see that many of our learners have come to realize that it does not end in class only. One can make a career out of the arts."

Tour guide Vhavenda Vho-Abraham Matsila of the Matsila Development Trust took them around the centre and afforded them the chance to see other projects that have provided employment to more than 500 local people.

"We are happy to have young learners visiting us to learn more about what we are doing here. Many learners do not have much information about careers in the arts, and we told them about the different career paths they could follow in the arts," he said.
