The normally quiet town of Louis Trichardt is set to come alive this weekend, when the annual Makhado Show swings into full force. Apart from the funfair and stalls, the sounds of top artists such as Dr Malinga, King Monada and Colbert Mukwevho will fill the air.

The show started on Thursday (27th) and continues until Saturday night (29th).

The programme is scheduled to start with a parade and the Makhado Air Force Base will do a fly-by with their fighter aircraft. This will be followed by a demonstration of the SAPS's Dog Unit's capabilities. The Makhado mayor will give a short address before officially opening the show.

The show has once again attracted a large number of exhibitors, including government departments and parastatals. The list includes SASSA, SARS, Social Development, the Premier's Office, SAPS, the departments of Economic Development, Home Affairs, Public Works and the Department of Agriculture.

Friday's programme includes performances by local gospel artists. Most of the action on stage has, however, been reserved for Saturday when a massive music festival is scheduled to take place. "On Saturday, there will be a lot of fun and entertainment. Despite the funfair, there will be a music concert. Well-known artists such as DJ Prince Kaybee, King Monada, Dr Malinga, Josta from Linga's entertainment, Trademark, Rofhiwa, Joe Shirimane, Just Ice, Makhadzi, Colbert Mukwevho, Durban-Nyts, Tiyani Maluleke, Cornerstone, Burning Doctor and many more will perform," said Louis Bobodi, spokesperson for the Makhado Municipality.

The programme directors for the festival include Jonas Netshipise, Rofhiwa Nethengwe, Mbalavhali-D and Bundu.

The entrance fees for Thursday and Friday are set at R50 per adult and R30 per child. On Saturday, children will still pay R30, but adults will be expected to pay R70. "Pensioners and children below three years of age may enter for free," added Bobodi.

Friday's tickets will be sold at the Makhado Municipality's Disaster Centre (next to the taxi rank in Eltivillas). For Saturday, the tickets will be sold at Computicket outlets such as Shoprite, Checkers and Pick n Pay.
