Makhado beat Blouberg to become new champions

The Makhado Municipality´s soccer team was crowned champions.

The Makhado Municipality´s soccer team was crowned the new champions of the South African Municipal Sport Association, after beating Blouberg municipality 1-0 in the final match, played at the Louis Trichardt Rugby stadium on Saturday.

Makhado played the whole match with 10 men, after Happy Mahosi dived into his opponent´s leg outside the penalty area and the referee gave him his marching orders. No goal was scored in the first half. Makhado´s goal poacher, Thomas Nevhulamaba, missed an easy goal in the 49th minute.

Blouberg also came close to scoring, when Freddy Molefe shot wide from close range. The local lads entertained the crowd with their skills. Chris Meso of the visitors was reprimanded with a card for rough play on Zane Nkhumeleni.

Tsumbedzo Mushungwa of the home team scored the only goal of the match in the 78th minute. As new champions, Makhado went home with a new soccer kit, gold medals and a floating trophy. Blouberg Municipality received silver medals.

In the netball, the floating trophy of the champions went to Mogalakwena Municipality, and Polokwane ended in second position. Makhado was placed third.
