Limpopo police has honoured Captain Mokgadi Mamokwabe, commander of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit in Makhado, with a Provincial Excellence Award during a ceremony held at Bolivia Lodge in Polokwane on 25 June.
The Makhado FCS Unit was also recognised as Team of the Year, highlighting its contribution to combating crimes against women and children. The dual recognition of Mamokwabe and the unit reflects their commitment to excellence, teamwork and the protection of vulnerable members of society.
Presenting the awards, Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe said the ceremony recognised members of the South African Police Service whose dedication, professionalism, innovation and commitment to serving the people of Limpopo had earned them recognition.
Receiving the award, Captain Mamokwabe attributed her success to hard work, commitment and dedication rather than examinations or written tests. “Working tirelessly, not watching the clock when it is time to go home, and treating every case with the seriousness it deserves are the keys to success,” she said.
She also expressed gratitude to her colleagues and family for their support. “The support I receive from my team and my family, especially when I have to work late, has played a significant role in this achievement. I am equally proud that the Makhado FCS Unit has been recognised as Team of the Year because this award belongs to every member of the unit,” she said.
Mamokwabe joined the South African Police Service in 2004 and was initially stationed in the Waterberg policing area. She later transferred to Thohoyandou SAPS, where she worked in crime prevention before moving to Tshilwavhusiku SAPS in 2007. She joined the detective service later that year and served as a detective until 2009.
In 2010, she joined the Child Protection Unit in Makhado. She was promoted to sergeant in 2015 and later to warrant officer in 2022 while serving at the Musina Child Protection Unit. In February 2026, she was promoted to captain and appointed commander of the Makhado FCS Unit.
