There was joy when the mayor of Makhado Municipality, Cllr Mavhungu Luruli, finally said I do... This was during her wedding to Mr Happy Ramakhanya at a glittering traditional royal wedding ceremony that was held at the Louis Trichardt Show Grounds last Saturday.

Ramakhanya is a prince from the Ha-Maguada-Ramulongo royal family of the Vuvha area in Nzhelele.

Mayor Luruli was officially given a royal marriage name, Nya-Muofhe, by her husband´s father, Chief Vha-Venda Vho-Luvhani Ramulongo-Maguada. He said that the mayor must now be called by her royal name, Nya-Muofhe, instead of Mavhungu.

The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Premier Cassel Mathale, Deputy-Speaker of the Limpopo Legislature Ms Miriam Ramadwa, MEC for Health and Social Development Mrs Dikeledi Magadzi, Judge Joseph Raulinga and the national president of cooperatives, Mr Laurance Bale.

MEC Magadzi, who congratulated Luruli during the ceremony, said that she had now grown to be a beautiful leader. She added that a marriage was a bed of roses, but "you just remove all the thorns." She said that Ramakhanya must know that getting married to a person of Luruli´s calibre simply meant getting married to the ANC.

Ramakhanya said that a family that prays together, stays together. "A happy marriage is a union of two forgivers," he added.
