On Thursday, 1 February, the Makhado SAPS will be holding a memorial service at the Makhado Show Grounds for one of their own, the late Sgt Shantel Mabasa, who was tragically killed in a car accident on 25 January this year.
According to Makhado police spokesperson Sgt Tshifhiwa Radzilani, Mabasa (40) was travelling on the R525 when her colleague, who was driving, tried to avoid a goat and lost control of their vehicle, which capsized. The driver was seriously injured, while Mabasa was declared dead on arrival at the Masisi clinic.
Makhado SAPS's station commander, Col Bez Bezuidenhout, said they were deeply saddened by Mabasa's untimely death. He said she had been a dedicated member of the police force.
Mabasa leaves her two young children, aged 7 and 10, behind. She will be buried in Giyani on Sunday, 4 February.
