Makovha All Stars are in a joyous mood after being crowned champion of champions for the Thulamela Local Football Association (Thulfa) at the Makhuvha Stadium last Sunday. They beat Mangondi Young Brothers 3-1 in the final to lift the trophy.
All Stars took home R10,000, gold medals, a floating trophy, a soccer kit and a soccer ball in a ceremony at the stadium shortly after the match. Mangondi Young Brothers received R8,000, silver medals, a soccer kit and a soccer ball.
Third-placed Mukondeni Shoe Shine FC collected R7,000, a soccer kit and a soccer ball after beating Duthuni-based Future Stars FC 2-0 in the losers' final earlier in the day. Future Stars went home with R6,500, a soccer kit and a soccer ball.
The other three teams in the top seven — Mangaya Living Commodores, LG Discovery and Tshikovhi Fighting Angels — were each awarded R6,000.
It was announced during the ceremony that all seven sides — Makovha All Stars, Mangondi Young Brothers, Mukondeni Shoe Shine, LG Discovery, Future Stars, Mangaya Living Commodores and Tshilovi Fighting Angels — had been promoted to the Safa Vhembe Regional League.
Thulfa general secretary Nnditsheni Mathule appealed to the officials and players of the promoted teams to represent the association in a respectable manner in the higher division. A total of 187 teams were affiliated to Thulfa in the season that ended last Sunday.
