When a resident of Tshisaulu village, Mr Emmanuel Davhana, attended a home match of Makumbane Hunters FC as a spectator towards the end of last year, Davhana felt his heart break when he saw the boys playing in tattered soccer kit. Without telling anyone, "Mr Photographer", as he is widely known, went from one sports outlet to the other, searching for quotations for a complete soccer kit.
As a self-employed photographer, Davhana then embarked on a mission to raise the funds towards the procurement of the soccer kit. After raising the targeted amount of R8 000, the former soccer star went to the outlet where he had seen the soccer kit and bought it. The soccer kit was handed over to the team at Tshisaulu Butchery last Sunday morning.
Davhana has appealed to other people, especially businessmen, to follow in his footprints. He stressed the fact that one did not need a lot of money to lend a helping hand to people in need.
Makumbane Hunters are not the first team to receive a generous donation from Davhana. He donated sport equipment to several local soccer teams, including Itsani Double Chiefs and Makumbane Pirates, over the past months.
The manager and coach of Hunters, Mr Nnditsheni Nemaname, described Mr Davhana as a lifesaver. The team is campaigning under the auspices of the Thulamela Local Football Association (Thulfa).
