Following the phenomenal success of their hit song Phungo a Dzilingani, Malisakholomo Band has released a brand-new music video. The video was filmed at various locations, including Halambani Mahagala, Nkavele, and Mhinga villages.
Phungo a Dzilingani is from the group's award-winning album of the same name, which won Best Traditional Song at the 2024 Tshima Awards. The song was officially released on 18 February this year, and the video was expertly shot and edited by master videographer Avhasei Luvhengo.
Malisakholomo Band is one of the oldest Tshivenda traditional music groups to emerge from Vhembe. Group leader Apostle Takalani David Netshivhodza said that winning the Tshima Award last year had made many things possible.
"Winning the Tshima Award in 2024 opened many doors for us. We are in high demand as performers, and our latest album is widely sought after and played everywhere. After the hit track Phungo a Dzilingani won the award, we were inundated with calls from fans asking about the music video. Initially, we planned to take our time and create videos for all the tracks, but due to overwhelming demand, we had to act quickly," he said.
A second video was also produced, for the song Ndikhou tou Kombetshedza. "We plan to create videos for all the remaining tracks, one at a time, to satisfy our fans," he added.
According to Netshivhodza, the new video is performing well, with many fans already purchasing it online. "We are still riding the wave of excitement, following our recent successes. We are highly motivated and currently working on a new EP, set for release in May 2025. This is shaping up to be a great year for us and our fans," he said.
