While Lamontvile Golden Arrows were celebrating their automatic promotion to the Absa Premiership Division on Sunday, it was a sad moment for the players, officials and supporters of Garankuwa United and Maluti FET College.
Golden Arrows finished their National First Division League program with 60 points, six ahead of Jomo Cosmos. Maluti FET College are languishing at the bottom of the log. They managed to collect only 20 points this season.
Maluti FET College are taking Garankuwa United down to the ABC Motsepe League with them. United wrapped up their league programme in the second-last position with 22 points. The team concluded their league programme by donating points to Thanda Royal Zulu, to whom they lost 2-3 at the Umhlathuze Stadium in Richardsbay. The Maluti students could not absorb the pressure from Baroka FC, who beat them 3-2 at the Charles Mopedi Stadium in Phutaditshaba.
Black Leopards and Jomo Cosmos booked places in the promotional play-offs. Leopards finished their league programme in the third spot with 51 points. They beat African Warriors 2-0 at the Thohoyandou Stadium in their last league match.
Although their place in the promotional play-offs was already guaranteed before playing their match against Cape Town All Stars on Sunday, Jomo Cosmos did not leave anything to chance. They blasted Cape Town All Stars 2-0 at the Athlone Stadium. The result of the match means that Cape Town All Stars narrowly missed the play-offs.
Royal Eagles collected the maximum points at the expense of Witbank Spurs. They won 1-0 at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban. In their Cape Town derby at the Philipi Stadium, Milano United lost 1-3 to FC Cape Town. Vasco da Gama beat Santos 1-0 at the Parow Park Stadium in Cape Town.
