The first Miss South Africa Disability 2024 queen, Ms Mathilda Mamatseane, was crowned at the George Phadagi Community Hall in Thohoyandou on Saturday, 2 November.
The pageant, created by the Tshilande Foundation, was established to provide a more inclusive platform that respects and highlights the diverse experiences of people living with disabilities.
"As Miss South Africa Disability 2024, I will actively engage in community work, collaborate with organisations focused on disability rights, and strive to raise awareness, inclusion, and support for people with disabilities," said Mamatseane after being crowned.
While Mamatseane took the title, the male section was won by Ronewa Tshivhidzo. A role model in his community, Ronewa is passionate about advocating for physical accessibility and promoting vocational training programs for people with disabilities.
"The Miss South Africa Disability 2024 grand finale was not only a pageant but also a gathering that united advocates, supporters, and leaders within the disability community. The event aimed to empower participants and provide them with a platform to voice their aspirations, challenges, and dreams," said Mr Tondani Tshilande, the managing director of the Tshilande Foundation and one of the event organisers.
