MOPANI – A 28-year-old resident of Mapayeni Village in the Giyani area was still to appear in the Giyani Magistrates' Court for murder at the time of going to the press. This follows a dramatic incident that took place at the Mapayeni Village on Sunday night.

According to the spokesperson of the police in the Mopani area, Capt Moatshe Ngoepe, the suspect came back home late at night on the day of the incident. He was in the company of his girlfriend. When he arrived at home, he realised that there were children sleeping in his room.

The statement indicates that the suspect became angry that he ordered the children to vacate the room immediately. The statement indicates that the children ignored him and he then allegedly started to grab them one by one and threw them out.

The suspect's elder brother, a 36-year-old man, heard the noise from his room and went out to see what was happening. He also tried to explain to his brother why the children occupied the room. According to the police, visitors who came that afternoon occupied the children's room. That had forced the elders to move the children to the suspect's room as a temporary solution.

The suspect allegedly became more aggressive as his elder brother was trying to explain the situation to him. He then allegedly produced a knife and stabbed his brother in the chest. The victim was rushed to Nkhensani Hospital, where he was certified dead on arrival.

The suspect and his girlfriend disappeared into the darkness after the incident. He was, however, traced and arrested later that night.
