The police in the Tshilwavhusiku area have arrested a man charged with rape and robbery following an incident at Gogobole on Sunday, 1 March.
According to the police spokesperson, Capt Vuledzani Dathi, the victim was asleep in her home with her five-year-old child when the incident occurred. The suspect allegedly broke into her house during the night.
He reportedly raped the woman before robbing her of cash. The victim said she first heard a noise in her kitchen while using her cell phone, but initially thought it was nothing, as she had ensured the gate, doors, and windows were securely locked before going to bed. She was then confronted by an unknown man standing next to her bed, who instructed her to remain quiet while holding a panga.
Capt Dathi said the suspect allegedly told the victim that he had been sent by a family member of her late husband to steal her money because it was the end of the month. The suspect is also reported to have taken her cell phone and then ordered her to unlock the door so he could leave. The victim complied, and the suspect fled. She later identified him by his nickname; he is known to live in the same village.
The suspect was arrested on Sunday afternoon and will appear in the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate’s Court facing charges of rape and robbery.
