A man died and a woman was seriously injured after their bakkie plunged from Dididi Bridge into a river on Sunday evening, 26 July. Police are investigating the crash, which occurred when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle.

A 45-year-old man died and a 55-year-old woman was seriously injured after a bakkie lost control and plunged off the Dididi Bridge into the river on Sunday evening, 26 July, at about 23:30.

The crash occurred while the occupants were travelling in a white Mahindra bakkie from Dididi village to Manini village.

It is alleged that the driver lost control of the vehicle before it overturned and fell from the bridge into the river below. Vhembe police spokesperson Captain Vuledzani Dathi said two people were travelling in the vehicle.

"A 45-year-old male driver died at the scene, while a 55-year-old female passenger sustained serious injuries and was taken to a local medical facility for treatment," said Dathi.

Dathi said Thohoyandou police had opened a culpable homicide case and investigations were continuing.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is urged to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Talifhani Makhuvha, on 082 469 1397.
